(Post 20) Final Practice Video Tasks Planning



We were given the task to create a one minute music video of original footage. We were put into groups and given a choice of a number of songs to choose from. We had to either do a music video in one take or one in the style of director Wes Anderson.




We chose to do a one take music video to She's So Lovely- Scouting For Girls





We did some research into one take music videos. OK Go are a band who are known famously for their one take music videos. We watched a number if their music videos looking for inspiration for ideas and the motivation they have to get everything absolutely perfect in one take. Some of the OK go videos we looked at are:

We looked at the determination involved in getting everything right and watched behind the scenes videos to see how many times it went wrong etc and how many takes they had to do to get it perfect.


For our own video we had a number of ideas. Our original idea was to get a girl from our year to walk around the quad with loads of boys gazing at her and other girls watching and being jealous. We struggled when we tried to put that idea into practice as there wasn't enough boys in the sixth form that were free at the time and our only options were to use a class of year 7's which we found was a bit weird given their age. We then decided as a group to go to a park and make the plot about a love story between Amelia in our year and a boy in the year below. However when we started filming we realised that the footage and plot really did not reflect and represent the mood of the song. So we came back to school and with multiple attempts of trying to get everybody who was in the clc to stare and gaze at Amelia as she walked through we finally changed to our final idea of Amelia walking from the bathrooms through the clc and then into the media room where everyone broke into dancing and singing.

We were given a task in groups of 2/3 to create a film poster in response to a ready made one from a previous film. Our poster was Rocky V: (this is the original) The one we made: We took some photos of Luke in the same position as the man in the Rocky V poster. We took a wide range and then selected the 2 most similar ones to the poster that we were given. We then moved them over to Photoshop and layered the two images over the top of an American flag, which was as similar to the original poster as possible. We then cut around the full body image, in order to get rid of the background of that photo in order to place it on top of the American Flag. Then we added the close up image of Luke behind the full body image. we put it all together, and in the end became a successful poster.

(Post 46) Final Song Choice

Patrick Watson - Lighthouse   Other music videos: Is there a common theme to his videos? The first music video I embedded of the song 'Broken' shows lights a car passes driving at night. Occasionally, faces of other people including the artist appear as an overlay over the shots of the lights. Not a lot is happening in the video and even though it seems like it is not following a certain storyline, the video suits the lyrics of the song. Lines such as ' Tell me where we're going tonight, tell me where we're going so fast' suit the car driving past the neon lights at night.  The second video of the song 'Places you will go' is a one-take lip-syncing performance using different effects to make the heads of the performers bigger. This and the video for the song 'Into giants' are the only lip-syncing songs I could find.  This video follows a storyline and is probably the most entertaining video out of all of the above. Ho...

(Post 39) Final, Final Idea Based On Planning

Our final storyline idea for our music video involves three children exploring their surroundings in order to escape the reality of their everyday life. Abused by their father, they find happiness in the nature and places around them. At the end of our music video it will become clear that the little boy who is one of the three children is the artist performing the song telling the story of his upbringing through his song.
