(Post 28) Planning Casting and Characters

Character1:

Our main character is a middle aged man who is playing the artist of our song Patrick Watson. He will be sat at a piano in a big old fashioned room playing the song of our music video. The idea is that he will be reminiscing about his childhood and how he dealt with the troubles going on in his life whilst he and his sisters grew up. We are hoping that the emotion the character feels will be visible through the acting of who we choose to cast.

Character 2:

Our next character is character 1 but as a child of about 10 years old. To begin with it will not be clear that these two people are the same person just at different stages in their life but it will be made clear in the end. He will be shown as a carefree and free spirited, yet troubled child. He is a very imaginative young boy and still very much shows this, despite this it is still clear that he is facing challenges in his life which are that at home he has an abusive father and his sister take him outside to take him away from everything that is going on and to allow him to still have a childhood and an imagination.

Character 3:

Character 3 is a girl slightly older than character 2 who is playing one of his older sisters. Her role will be to be caring and loving towards her little brother.

Character 4:

Character 4 is going to be the eldest sister who will play a kind of mothering role to both her siblings but especially her younger brother. The three siblings have a tough time at home as their mother has passed away and their father drinks way too much and now abuses them. This character, as the oldest sister, feels it is her duty to act as a mother and care for her 2 younger siblings. She takes them out of the house frequently to give them a break.

Character 1:

Our options for character 1 are limited as a group we do not know large amounts of people in this age group. For convenience it has been easiest to look at our family members and choose from there. We have used Mike Holness, Evies dad in our previous coursework last year. We found that he is very comfortable infant of a camera and is good at acting. He fits our character profile and he can play the piano which helps for our casting of him as well.

Character 2: 

Again, for character 2 we are going to use Evies brother Herbie who we have previously used in our year 12 preliminary task and our year 12 coursework. Herbie does acting out of school and therefore is more than happy to take part in our videos. We also decided he is the best person to play the younger version of character 1 because he is in fact his actual son. This is also beneficial to us because it means that they are very comfortable around each other so we don't need to worry about their performance.

Character 3:

We have had a number of options for character 3. Ideally we would cast Olivia Phillips who we used in our preliminary task this year.

Character 4:

Character 4 has also had a number of options. Originally we knew exactly who we wanted for this role but due to circumstances she isn't going to be available for us to film her. Because of this we have had to look for other options. It has been a challenge as we don't really know many 20 yr olds, so we are having to cast a slightly younger actor who we think looks older than they really are. The original person we wanted was Millie Wykes:

Final casting choices:

Character 1: Michael Holness

Our final reasons for choosing Mike to play Patrick Watson were that it just seemed logical because he seems perfect for the role.

Character 2: Herbie Holness

Herbie has had previous acting experience and he also perfectly fits the age group and look we are trying to demonstrate.


Character 3: Jess Norton


She is part of our media group which means she has done a lot of previous research on what it takes to act in a music video.

Character 4: Maddie Wilson

Maddie fits the age group as well as the looks and she was willing and available to take part. She also doesn't have much acting experience, however she is a close friend which means she will be more comfortable in front of us and it will be easier to bring across our ideas.
