(Post 9) I've Watched a New Film















































The film I was given to watch was called The Brick. I had never heard of the film before but once I read the back of the film I thought it was something that I would enjoy. The film was about a boy called Brendan who found his ex girlfriend dead the day after a distressing phone call from her when she said various words and phrases that he didn't know the meaning of. Brendan then makes it his mission to rekindle old friendships and enter new ones within his high school to get to the bottom of the reasons behind how and why she died. At the end of the film we find out that she was murdered because she was caught up in a mix up with a drug dealer selling heroin and that at the time she was killed she was pregnant with Brendan's child.

An aspect of the film which i enjoyed was that although with difficulty, the piecing together of the storyline at the end was very satisfying. I followed most of the film not really understanding the plot or what was happening but by the end of it I was able to piece all of the different parts together to make sense of it. I also liked that it started in present day and then used flashbacks to help understand the previous background however this did get confusing at some points.

I didn't really enjoy the fact that I found it really hard to follow the storyline. I struggled to understand what was going on throughout the film and at the end I found myself googling a synopsis to try help me understand and piece it all together.

The film i was given is quite different from what we are aiming for with our music video. The film is based in a high school and about troubled relationships and drug use and death however our aim for our coursework is for it to come across as very peaceful and scenic fitting with our choice of music.

Would recommend this film to some people however not all. There are lots of people who do not enjoy films where you have to put a lot of concentration into what is happening and to follow the storyline and like it to be obvious so they can enjoy it more. However there are definitely some people I know who would enjoy this film and the detective side of it. So I will definitely be recommending it to some people selectively.

We were given a task in groups of 2/3 to create a film poster in response to a ready made one from a previous film. Our poster was Rocky V: (this is the original) The one we made: We took some photos of Luke in the same position as the man in the Rocky V poster. We took a wide range and then selected the 2 most similar ones to the poster that we were given. We then moved them over to Photoshop and layered the two images over the top of an American flag, which was as similar to the original poster as possible. We then cut around the full body image, in order to get rid of the background of that photo in order to place it on top of the American Flag. Then we added the close up image of Luke behind the full body image. we put it all together, and in the end became a successful poster.

(Post 46) Final Song Choice

Patrick Watson - Lighthouse   Other music videos: Is there a common theme to his videos? The first music video I embedded of the song 'Broken' shows lights a car passes driving at night. Occasionally, faces of other people including the artist appear as an overlay over the shots of the lights. Not a lot is happening in the video and even though it seems like it is not following a certain storyline, the video suits the lyrics of the song. Lines such as ' Tell me where we're going tonight, tell me where we're going so fast' suit the car driving past the neon lights at night.  The second video of the song 'Places you will go' is a one-take lip-syncing performance using different effects to make the heads of the performers bigger. This and the video for the song 'Into giants' are the only lip-syncing songs I could find.  This video follows a storyline and is probably the most entertaining video out of all of the above. Ho...

(Post 39) Final, Final Idea Based On Planning

Our final storyline idea for our music video involves three children exploring their surroundings in order to escape the reality of their everyday life. Abused by their father, they find happiness in the nature and places around them. At the end of our music video it will become clear that the little boy who is one of the three children is the artist performing the song telling the story of his upbringing through his song.
